That was until I became more aware of the world around me, and I began to understand the opportunities that lie ahead. Today I am now able to see the power within, I have learned that when you put you heart, soul and mind to something, we are able to change the world. Don’t get me wrong, I can still be that silly girl but I now have the power and courage to stand up for what I believe in.

The Hero of my story shares this happiness with all. My mentors and leaders lead the way and provide the mold on how I can mentor and lead others. I make sure I give back. I want girls to look up to me like I do my mentors. I want to be a mentor for other young girls.
When I entered middle school though, I started to take note of how little other girls spoke in class, and how on the rare occasion that one did speak up, she would begin saying, “I don’t know if I’m right but…” before stating her answer. I noticed our male peers never seemed to say the same.
History teaches us that change often comes in waves, and while change may at times appear sudden, it is more often the result of the combined effect of many efforts and their impact in aggregate.
